If you are experiencing a leaking hot water cylinder, contact us immediately. Often, the leak is a result of leaking valves and pipes connected to the cylinder, which can be quickly and easily fixed. If the cylinder tank itself is leaking, it is likely to require a full replacement.
Electric hot water cylinders replacements & new installations
We offer the full service of new hot water installations and replacements. We install both indoor and outdoor water heaters & cylinders. We can also undertake the plumbing to transition from an indoor cylinder location to outdoors.
Converting from gas to electric water heating
If you have gas supplied hot water and would like to switch to an electric hot water solution we can guide and advise you on your options including infinity electric and indoor and outdoor cylinders.

Solar ready hot water heaters
If your home is currently set up with solar panels, or you are intending to proceed with solar energy, we can advise and guide you on suitable cylinder options for your home. We can supply and install your solar hot water heater cylinder as part of our full plumbing service. Our service does not include the setup of the solar panels, pipes, pumps etc.

Hot water heat pumps are an energy-efficient way to supply reliable hot water for your home. We provide both new installations and retrofits, replacing older systems with modern, cost-effective units. From setup to connection, we manage the entire process, ensuring your hot water heat pump is installed safely and performs at its best. New heat pumps could be connected to your current cylinder.

New hot water heater cylinder installations
We supply and install a wide range of hot water cylinders. This includes smaller sized 25 litre cylinders (for specific kitchen sites), through to standard 180 & 250 litre cylinders, and larger family sized 340 litre cylinders. We supply only quality brands, including Rinnai and Rheem.
Depending on your family size and usage requirements, we can guide and advise you on the best solution for your household. This includes:
- High vs low-pressure shower/s.
- Energy efficiency setup options, with regards to shower heads and temperature controls.
- Cylinder location/s and set up. There is now an extensive range of cylinder types and sizes, designed to fit a range of small and large sized spaces. In addition, some models can be installed outside to save space inside the home.
As part of completing our on-site installation, we do a thorough performance test to ensure the water pressure and the system is working optimally. Furthermore, at the time of installation all cylinders are earthquake strapped, and hot water pipes are insulated to improve energy efficiency.
Note: The life expectancy of a new hot water cylinder is approx. 15 years.
Maintenance, servicing & repairs
At Plumb Plumbing of Wellington, we offer a wide range of services around hot water cylinder maintenance, servicing and repairs.
For servicing and repairs, we will initially assess your hot water cylinder set up including connected pipes and valves. If a repair is an option, we can advise you on the best solution.
Our range of services includes:
- Hot water cylinder checks.
- Sacrificial anodes – checking the status of the anode and determining if it needs to be replaced. For those with enamel metal hot water cylinders, it’s important to check and/or replace your sacrificial anode every 3 – 5 years to extend the lifetime of your hot water cylinder.
